Willem Dafoe

William J."Willem" Dafoe (nascut pe 22 iulie 1955) este un actor american, de doua ori nominalizat la Premiul Oscar, si membru fondator al companiei de teatru The Wooster Group. El este cel mai bine cunoscut pentru rolurile sale in Wild at Heart, To Live and Die in L.A., Platoon, Flight of the Intruder, The Last Temptation of the Intruder , Shadow of the Vampire, Mississippi Burning, The Boondock Saints, filmele Spider-Man si Finding Nemo.

Dafoe, cel de-al saptelea din cei opt copii ai familiei, s-a nascut cu numele de William J. Dafoe in Appleton, Wisconsin, fiul lui Muriel Isabel, asistenta medicala originara din Boston, si al lui Alfred William Dafoe, medic chirurg. Bunicul din partea tatalui a fost din Belleville, Ontario.
Numele lui de nastere este William Dafoe insa actorul l-a schimbat in "Willem" (varianta olandeza pentru "William") pentru ca oamenii sa nu-l strige "Billy".

Dupa ce a fost ematriculat din Liceul Appleton East din cauza ca a realizat un videoclip pe care directorii scolii l-au considerat "pornografic", actorul si-a terminat studiile la Universitatea Lawrence. Apoi a studiat arta dramatica la Universitatea din Wisconsin-Milwaukee, dar a renuntat la aceasta inainte de absolvire in scopul de a se alatura noului grup de avangarda Teatrul X.
